A republished mystery from the 1930s, a golden age for British crime-writing. A darkly humorous crime story from 1932. When a couple make a grisly discovery in their new home’s basement no-one seems able to work out just who the murdered women was. Chief Inspector Moresby’s lines of enquiry seem to be exhausted and he turns to amateur sleuth and criminologist Roger Sheringham for help. Can a novel inspired by a south London school give answers from amongst the staff? Sheringham’s on-the-job experience may prove invaluable. First published in 1932, an inventive story by the influential writer Anthony Berkeley, pen name of Anthony Berkeley Cox (1893–1971).
