Amateur sleuth and part-time criminologist Roger Sheringham is attending costume party with the scandalous theme of ‘famous murderers and their victims’. When one of the party is found hanging from a ‘decorative’, prop gallows on the terrace Sheringham realises his instincts about the victim were correct and she did have enemies amongst the guests. Drawn to meddle with the crime scene, to protect a friend from being falsely implicated, Sheringham finds his own expertise now catching up with him as he becomes, himself, the suspected murderer. A tightly-paced and unconventional murder mystery to keep readers guessing.
