Description
Smart tin recalling early 17th century Dutch delftware tile patterns filled with chocolate chip biscuits. Named after the Dutch city which became the centre of production for these characteristic blue and white tiles, Delft ceramics began in the 1600s as an imitation of Chinese imports. Potters began to create tin-glazed earthenware to rival those imported by the East India Company but the decoration quickly came to reflect Dutch traditions and aspects of daily life. Production reached its height in the mid 17th century, with Delftware becoming much sought after across the Netherlands, Europe and also into British homes. The swirling pattern and foliage seen on this tin evokes the elaborate designs of the period. British made biscuits, with indulgent chocolate chips, make a thoughtful gift with keepsake tin.
