Illustrated Brothers Grimm Fairy Tales

A sumptuous edition combining 80 of the spellbinding fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm with glorious illustrations by revered artist Arthur Rackham (1867-1939). Presented in large format, enjoy the traditional tales collected and preserved by the folklorist brothers Jacob (1785–1863) and Wilhelm Grimm (1786–1859) in the classic English translation from 1884 by Margaret Hunt (1831–1912). W.H. Auden is quoted as having said the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm are ‘next to the Bible in importance’ in terms of their influence upon western thought and culture. Not aimed at younger readers, this grown-up edition glories in the imagery and imagination of the original texts, which itself reflects the historical attitudes and usage of the 19th century. Enjoy 'Rapunzel', 'Cinderella', 'The Bremen Town-Musicians', 'The Hare and the Hedgehog', 'Hansel and Grethel', 'Fundevogel', 'The Goose Girl', 'Rumpelstiltskin', and more. All while enjoying Rackham’s iconic and intricate black-and-white illustrations, including many full-page images. With decorative page edges and end papers, the book is presented with a handsome, gold foil stamped cover.
