Hand-enamelled silver brooch inspired by 'Irises', painted in 1889 by Van Gogh (1853-1890), now held in the John Paul Getty Museum. The painting was bought by French art critic Octave Mirbeau, one of Van Gogh's earliest supporters, who praised the work, writing: 'How well he has understood the exquisite nature of flowers!'.
