Description
Hand-craved turtle netsuke draws upon the Japanese tradition of miniature toggles, which evolved from practical fastenings for inro containers on kimono sashes in the 17th century into exquisite works of sculpture. The turtle, or 'kame', is a revered motif symbolising longevity, wisdom, and good fortune, frequently depicted during the Edo period (1615–1868). Netsuke artisans achieved remarkable detail and expressive power in these small objects, reflecting Shinto reverence for nature and the aesthetic ideals of wabi-sabi. Display in a cabinet of curiosities or on a scholar’s desk as a talismanic accent. A refined gift for collectors of Japanese art and those who appreciate the intersection of tradition and artistry.
Each netsuke is hand carved with variances within the boxwood from light to darker tones.

The Netsuke is modern and a present for my husband who usually prefers antique, however is more than happy with this item. Very well made and a good addition to his collection.

Not as appears on website , much darker wood and not worth £40. Also description as a 'pot' suggested the lid would come off but it appears just one lump of wood
Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that the Turtle Pot Netsuke did not meet your expectations and appeared darker than shown on the website. As this piece is hand carved from boxwood, natural variations in tone can occur, ranging from lighter to darker shades, making each one slightly different. Kind regards, Alice.
