Description
Small floral little case for lipstick, contact lenses or travel, decorated with a detail from 'Bloemstilleven' by Herman Henstenburgh (1667–1726), a Dutch master celebrated for his luminous floral still lifes rendered in watercolour and gouache on vellum, a technique that gave his blooms an especially jewel-like glow. Working in the Dutch Golden Age tradition of botanical and still-life painting, Henstenburgh built his reputation on meticulous flower studies at a time when the Netherlands led Europe both in horticultural innovation and in the artistic celebration of flowers as symbols of beauty, abundance and the passage of time. Finished with a magnetic clasp to keep the case secure, and the soft velvet-lined interior holds a small mirror. Elegant as a gift for any lover of floral painting.
