Scrollwork Oval Mirror

Ornate petite oval mirror inspired by Renaissance decorative metalwork, when classical scrolls and flourishes signalled a deliberate revival of antique Greek and Roman ornament following centuries of medieval design. This revival of classical motifs, known as grotesque or arabesque ornament, spread across Europe through pattern books and decorative metalwork from the fifteenth century onward, becoming a defining feature of Renaissance interiors, furniture and mirror frames alike.
