Peacock Enamel Compact Mirror

Jewel-like compact travel mirror, its peacock decoration in enamel and set crystals inspired by the sinuous, nature-loving motifs of Art Nouveau, the international design movement that flourished from the 1890s and drew heavily on organic form and the natural world. The peacock, with its iridescent plumage and dramatic fanned tail, became something of an emblem for the movement and its wider aesthetic circle, prized for the way its colours shifted and shimmered with the light, a quality Art Nouveau designers sought to capture across jewellery, glass and decorative metalwork.
