Description

Handsome cold cast bronze capturing the character of the playful otter and echoing the sleek lines of a French Art Deco sculpture. This ornament reflects the modernity embraced by designers of the 1920s and 30s and the rejection of the established, more naturalistic sculpture of the 19th century. Established in the 1920s, the Art Deco movement was characterised by its simple, geometric, and streamlined aesthetic. In direct contrast with the avant garde movement, artists such as Romain de Tirtoff (1892-1990), known by his alias Erté, were committed to create sculptures that reflected movement and kinetic energy. This bold sculpture embodies the values of this era, a striking ornament and focal point for any living room or study.
