Description
This beautiful cast-iron instrument demonstrates man’s ability to conceive and craft. The armillary or equatorial sundial originated in Ancient Greece and demonstrated how the sun and stars were believed to revolve around the Earth. The custom of measuring time by shadows has persisted from ancient times right through to the invention of the mechanical clock; our Armillary Sundial resurrects this way of telling time.
To get accurate readings, select a flat surface in your garden where the armillary sundial is exposed to the sun from all directions and face the arrow towards true north.

I like the armillary as an ornament. It was easy to put together - instructions picture only but clear. Disappointed there are no instructions about positioning included. I couldn't seem to get a reading in the low winter sun. Although it's cast iron and quite weighty, it is currently indoors out of the strong winds - just in case. Looking forward to experimenting with it when the weather improves.
