Description
Mouse in a teacup hanging Christmas decoration, recalling the Victorian custom of hanging sugar mice on the Christmas tree. During the 19th century, sugar mice were a popular confection, often used as festive decorations before being enjoyed as a sweet treat, and they remain a traditional stocking filler in Britain to this day. The teacup nods to another much-loved Victorian ritual, afternoon tea, said to have been introduced in the 1840s by Anna Maria Russell, Duchess of Bedford (1783–1857), to stave off hunger between luncheon and a late dinner. Peeping over the rim of its cup, this little mouse brings a playful, vintage-inspired touch to the tree.
