Labrador Sculpture

Faithful Labrador sculpture by a contemporary sculptor working in the animalier tradition of Jules Moigniez (1835–1894), the celebrated French sculptor whose lifelike bronze animals, from gundogs to birds of prey, brought a new naturalism to nineteenth-century sculpture. The animalier movement had emerged earlier in the century through pioneers such as Antoine-Louis Barye (1795–1875), whose close anatomical study of animals at the Paris Ménagerie established a serious sculptural genre out of what had previously been considered a minor decorative pursuit. Handmade in cold-cast bronze resin, a technique combining real bronze powder with resin to capture fine detail and made in Britain a heartfelt tribute to a much-loved breed. Wonderful as a gift for any Labrador owner or lover of fine animal sculpture.
