Description
Painted glass hanging Christmas decoration in the form of a watering can, inspired by the baubles imported into Britain from Lauscha, Germany, in the 1870s, by which time the decorated Christmas tree had become a firm Victorian favourite. The watering can itself owes much to the Victorians, whose passion for gardening, from greenhouse ferns to grand herbaceous borders, saw its design refined. The British firm Haws, founded in 1886, patented a better-balanced can that is still made in much the same form today. Hung amongst your festive tree, it is a cheerful nod to the garden for any keen gardener’s tree.
