    Description

A fascinating desk-top thermometer based upon the scientific principle expounded by Galileo Galilei (1564-1642), that the density of a liquid changes in proportion to its temperature. 5 weighted globes, each with temperature markers, are suspended inside the mineral oil-filled glass tube. As air temperature changes the globes rise and fall: the lowest floating globe indicating the temperature. This thermometer measures temperatures 18-26°C. If all the globes rise to the top it indicates the current temperature is below the temperature of the lowest floating globe. If all the globes sink this indicates a higher temperature than the highest floating globe.

Bought this as a gift for a relative, one of those people who ‘has everything’ and it’s always difficult to find an original present . He usually ends up with gift tokens. As it’s for Christmas, he hasn’t seen it yet, but I found it both fascinating and attractive. I am quite sure he will feel the same. An ideal present if you are looking for something a bit different, both functional and intriguing. Many thanks.

It looks delicate, but arrived safely in sturdy packaging. I was pleased to find this as it is taller than some in other stores. Pretty and interesting too.

I bought two of these as presents for "difficult to buy for" men. I hope they will like them.
