Petite masterpiece inspired by the vibrant colours of the painted murals at the maharaja's palace in Dehradun, nestled in the Himalayan foothills. This clock pays tribute to the influence of Indian decorative arts on British taste, stemming from the Great Exhibition of 1851. It's pretty, and the enamelled surround is well made. I should, however, have checked how loudly it ticked before purchasing it. I may just be particularly sensitive to ticking, being more used to 'silent sweep' clocks. The face is either badly printed at the edge, or deliberately discoloured to suggest age/ mildew. I suspect it's the latter. Matt glass might have been less reflective and more vintage looking. All in all, though, I'm happy with my purchase. The clock looks good on my antique desk.
