O' Christmas Tree Cards

A cheery collection of 20th century imagery celebrates the festive Victorian icon: the Christmas tree. Includes images by Margaret W. Tarrant (1888-1959), Douglas Lionel Mays (1900-91), Molly Brett (1902–90), and Albert Chevallier Tayler (1862-1925). Prince Albert is often believed to have introduced the English to the German tradition of Christmas trees during the 1840s but the earliest Royal Christmas tree is thought to have been displayed by Queen Charlotte, the German wife of George III. The Queen decorated a potted yew for a party at Queen’s Lodge, Windsor in December 1800 and created an aristocratic fashion for similar trees.

10 designs, printed 'With all Good Wishes for Christmas and the New Year'.
6" x 4" and 4 ½" square.
Produced exclusively for Museum Selection.
