Description
White cotton T-shirt printed with a droll observation by American comedian George Burns (1896–1996), "Happiness is having a large, loving, caring, close-knit family who live in another city", whose dry wit and remarkable longevity made him a cultural fixture across eight decades of American entertainment. Burns began his career in vaudeville before finding lasting fame as one half of the double act George Burns and Gracie Allen, his deadpan delivery and cigar-chomping persona becoming instantly recognisable on radio, television and film. He won an Academy Award at the age of 79 for 'The Sunshine Boys' in 1975, going on to work well into his nineties and famously promising, and nearly managing, to perform on his hundredth birthday. Printed in England, it makes a witty gift for anyone who appreciates classic American comedy.

Made exclusively for Museum Selection.
