Recalling the lavish nativity scenes created in Naples since the 14th century but, notably, in the 17th and 18th centuries when the most spectacular nativity scenes decorated the city’s churches. From the Latin ‘praesepium’, meaning ‘crib’, Neapolitan ‘presepi’ are prized for their vibrant colour and detail.
