Description
Spend a year in nature with a wall calendar showcasing 12 colourful details from watercolours by much-loved English artist Edith Holden (1871-1920). An artist and art teacher, Holden delighted in observing the seasonal flora and fauna in the countryside near her home in Olton in the West Midlands. Reproducing exquisite details from Holden’s ‘Nature Notes for 1906’, which was published posthumously to great acclaim in 1977 as ‘The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady’. Filled with seasonal jottings, wildlife observations and charming, annotated illustrations of nature, the calendar presents birds, animals and plants to chime with the seasons. From a rabbit amongst primroses to Yellow Hammers in a field after harvest, discover Holden’s paintings, including studies of a Chaffinch’s nest beside wild hyacinths, the glossy wings of a starling, violets, catkins and a robin with snowdrops. A showcase of English nature, the calendar makes a delightful visual companion to enjoy throughout the year.
