Description
Royal Horticultural Society
A handsome desk diary Illustrated weekly with exquisite botanical studies by Lilian Snelling (1879–1972), considered one of the greatest botanical artists of the 20th century. Drawn from the superlative collection of the Society’s Lindley Library, which holds over 600 watercolour and pen-and-ink works by the prolific and revered artist, the colourful weekly illustrations range from British wildflowers to exotic specimens. Living for much of her life in St Mary Cray in Kent, and later Edinburgh, Snelling began as a gifted amateur whose work became the epitome of professional botanical art, widely admired for its scientific precision as well as artistic interpretation of specimens. Richly coloured and meticulous illustrations include Aster tripolium, 1936; Hepatica 'Bar Pauli', 1916; Iris 'Extra stylosa', 1952; Primula saxatilis, 1915; plus peonies, orchids, alliums, lilies and much more. Presented on uncoated matte paper and with a tactile art paper binding, colourful illustrations capture spectacular floral forms. A perfect companion to organise the year of any lover of flowers and botanical history.
