Transport for London
A compellingly clever challenge which pays tribute to London’s Underground and has 62,208 possible permutations to puzzle over. Play solo or challenge someone to a genius duel: roll the dice and place the ‘blocker’ pieces onto the matching grid co-ordinates; now race yourself or your opponent to place all nine of your shaped pieces to complete the grid. Inspired by London’s Underground, the two plastic game boards echo the shape of the iconic roundel, which started life in 1908 as a ‘bar and circle’ design, before becoming standardised in the 1920s with the pleasing Johnston-font lettering. The shaped pieces’ colours echo the colours of Underground lines (and other services) while the ‘blocker’ pieces recall the design of the interchanges circle-symbol; an homage to the beloved schematic Tube Map developed by Harry Beck (1902-74). Once you complete a grid, roll the dice and play again, and again. A clever computer programme guarantees there will always be at least one possible solution: your challenge is to find it! Some combinations will prove easy and others much harder: once you start a grid you won’t be able to stop with this engaging game for all the family, testing sequencing, visual perception, spatial awareness, strategic and quick-thinking skills.
