The Sleeping Beauty Theatre

An enchanting pop-up theatre to stage a performance of ‘Sleeping Beauty’, inspired by the classic fairytale published in French in 1697 by Charles Perrault and, in 1812, another version by the Brothers Grimm. Inspiring creative stagings ever since, from ballet to pantomime, this theatre-in-a-book can be stored flat but opens to reveal a theatre with a slotted gallery to put on your own show. Complete with die-cut card scenery and drop-in backdrops, the characters can be positioned from the wings using moveable sticks; there are also some press-out free-standing props. The imagery reproduces bewitching artwork by contemporary Hastings-based British paper artist Su Blackwell, whose work turns printed books into sculptures. With a booklet containing a script, stage directions, tips and tricks, young performers will enjoy staging and adapting the story as their imagination takes them.
