Description
Discover the strategic game of Viking Chess, known in medieval Scandinavia as ‘Hnefatafl’, or ‘King Table’, in which a Viking king and his force of 12 defenders occupy the centre of the board and must escape to the corners to win; but each corner of the board is guarded by 24 attackers who, in turn, seek to capture the king. Players must move their playing pieces horizontally and vertically, akin to the Rook in chess, and trap their opponent’s pieces between two of their pieces to take them out of the game. Accompanied by an illustrated book to explore the game play, tactics and history of the game, the game is presented in a compact format which is easy to store on a bookcase. Ingeniously designed to pop-up, players can place their die-cut cardboard attacker/defender-playing pieces into the cross-shaped board and play. Designed to fold flat, simply close the board at any stage of your game; re-open to pick up where you left off, with no need to pack away the playing pieces. When finished, the board includes two convenient storage pockets to hold the Viking playing pieces. A satisfying game of strategy and tactics to time travel with timeless gameplay in a convenient, modern format.
