Description
‘I want to make modern people, in their essential traits, move about as they do on those friezes, and place them on canvases organised by harmonies of colour’, Georges Seurat (1859-91)
Join the Parisian beau monde and spend a relaxing afternoon (or more) with a jigsaw puzzle. Relax on La Grande Jatte, an island set amid the Seine in suburban Paris, as you recreate Georges Seurat’s (1859-91) Post-Impressionist and pointillist masterpiece, now in the collection of The Art Institute of Chicago. Seurat’s much-loved and largest painting, ‘A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte - 1884’, 1884-86, represents a societal spectrum of young and old, rich and poor, enjoying their leisure hours beside the water; as well as demonstrating the artist’s pointillist colour theory which, painted in tiny dots of colour, Seurat believed the human eye would combine to perceive as see as solid, living colours. The jigsaw puzzle is created in a high-quality linen-textured blue puzzle board, to reduce dust and glare and with a full-size image guide: all the better to enjoy the atmospheric details of people, pets, boats, picnics and genteel leisure.
