Description
Natural History Museum
A delightful counted cross stitch kit to embroider a jewel-coloured detail inspired by a painting of a kingfisher by Archibald Thorburn (1860-1935), now in the collection of the Museum's Library and Archives. A keen watercolourist, Thorburn was an acclaimed Scottish wildlife painter and produced many studies of birds, usually depicted with naturalistic scenery in the background. Exhibited at the Royal Academy and a former Vice-President of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, Thorburn’s paintings captured the colours and character of the birds he observed. The kit includes colour charted instructions and twelve six-thread skeins of embroidery threads, helpfully arranged on a colour card to match to the counted design. The design uses Cross Stitch, Half Stitch, Back Stitch and French Knots to complete the embroidery and the finished picture can be displayed inside the hoop. A perfect pastime for a keen stitcher or bird watcher.
