Ferris Wheel Construction Kit

Get into a spin with a nostalgic construction kit to create a model of a fairground favourite: the Ferris Wheel. Named after the American civil engineer George Washington Gale Ferris Jr. (1859-96) who designed the very first Ferris Wheel as an 80m tall centrepiece for the World’s Columbian Exposition of 1893 which took place in Chicago. Inspired by – and seeking a similar attention-grabbing effect to – Paris’s Eiffel Tower which was constructed for the 1889 Exposition. Build your own, on a somewhat smaller scale, with this fun 422-piece kit to make a c.30cm tall Big Wheel. The wheel will move if you spin it but the model is for decoration only and not a toy. The construction style recalls the original ‘Mechanics Made Easy’ system patented by Frank Hornby in 1901 (later becoming ‘Meccano’) so makes a great nostalgic gift for anyone who grew up with similar kits.
