Tate
Make a visit to ‘Constable Country’ with a jigsaw puzzle reproducing pre-eminent landscape painter John Constable’s (1776-1837) ‘Flatford Mill’, otherwise known as ‘Scene on a Navigable River’, 1816-17, from the collection of the Tate. Capturing a working scene of a barge and tow horse preparing to pass under Flatford Bridge on the River Stour, the scenery was much-loved by the artist having grown up in the area. Constable painted other landscapes – including ‘The Hay Wain’, 1821 – in the area near Flatford Mill and the Suffolk village of East Bergholt and enjoyed recalling his childhood with such scenic views. A large-scale canvas, Constable painted much of the scene on the spot while visiting the area during the summers of 1816 and 1817. With sunshine, scudding clouds, reflections in the water, and leaves in the trees the scenery offers many soothing details for jigsaw puzzlers to enjoy. The jigsaw includes a helpful image guide and is presented in a space-saving compact box for storage.
