Description
Royal Horticultural Society
A botanical jigsaw puzzle to delight gardeners and botanists alike. Adapted from the meticulous botanical studies by the German-Swiss botanical artist Christian Gottlieb Geissler (1729–1814), which he produced for ‘Tabulae phytographicae’, a masterpiece work by Johannes Gessner (1709–1790). Published 1795-1804, the book presented 64 hand-coloured engravings by Geissler to explain the relationship of plants within the same classification according to Carl Linnaeus’s (1707-78) taxonomical system. Arranging plants and flowers in groupings, reflecting the number of stamens, this richly-coloured illustration is based on ‘Plant Table 14 – Pentandria 4’, which illustrates examples of the five-stamen class. With additional botanical details from the work, the intricate design will absorb plant-loving puzzlers for many happy hours. Created with a non-glare finish and made from recycled materials by Gibsons, a British, family-owned puzzle company founded in 1919.
