Lily Flower Brooch

White lily enamel brooch echoing the work of English biologist and botanical artist Marianne North (1830–90), many of whose flower paintings are currently housed at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. North was one of the most remarkable women of the Victorian era, an independent traveller who journeyed alone across five continents to paint the flora of the world in its natural habitat at a time when such freedom was barely conceivable for a woman of her class, producing over 800 oil paintings of extraordinary vividness and scientific value. This gold-plated white lily enamel brooch is a beautiful brooch to wear as a tribute to one of the great botanical artists.
