Description
Hand-enamelled and crystal-set costume floral brooch evoking the delicate cherry blossom in ‘The Outskirts of Koshigaya in Musashi Province’, from a series of woodblock prints by Utagawa Hiroshige, published in 1859. Hiroshige’s prints epitomised ukiyo-e art, influencing Western aesthetics during the Japonisme craze of the late 19th century. Cherry blossom, symbolising transience and renewal, became a favoured motif in Art Nouveau design. This brooch reflects that cultural dialogue, blending Japanese artistry with Victorian decorative traditions for a piece rich in historical resonance.
