Yutei Cranes Textured Print

Striking framed print reproducing Flock of Cranes by Japanese artist Ishida Yutei (1721-86), reflecting the refined bird-and-flower tradition of the Edo period. Known as kacho-ga, or flower and bird pictures, this subject combined seasonal feeling, poetic allusion and exquisite formal balance. Working in Kyoto in the classical Kano school tradition, Yutei brought courtly elegance and precise observation to his crane paintings. Long associated in Japan with longevity, purity and auspicious blessing, the crane gives the image a graceful symbolic resonance.
