Millefiori Paperweight

Striking glass paperweight reflecting the millefiori tradition, a technique whose name means a thousand flowers in Italian. Patterned glass rods are fused, sliced in cross-section and embedded in clear glass to create intricate flower-like designs, a method known to ancient Roman craftsmen and revived by Venetian glassmakers on Murano during the Renaissance. The great 19th-century French paperweight makers brought millefiori to new heights of refinement, establishing the paperweight as a serious collectible art form. Handcrafted in Scotland by Caithness.
