Glass Wave Ornament

An exquisite miniature: a handmade glass ornament capturing the dynamic power of a cresting wave. Created by the skilled glassblowers at Teign Valley Glass in Devon, where studio glass has been created with traditional care for over 35 years. A timeless subject, the power of the sea has fascinated the artistic imagination: from Katsushika Hokusai’s (1760-1849) elemental ‘The Great Wave Off Kanagawa’, published in 1831; to the abstraction of Barbara Hepworth’s (1903-75) sculpture ‘Wave’, 1943-44. Created from a ‘ribbon’ of molten glass, the limpid turquoise hues contrast with the texture of the foam and sea spray suggested by the crest of the wave. Sinuous and tactile, the ornament rests on a flat base and can be enjoyed and displayed from all angles. A collectible creation, each wave will vary slightly having been created by hand using traditional tools and techniques to shape the glass by hand. A lovely, sculptural piece, perfect as a gift or to enjoy yourself.
