Wooden Croquet Set

A fun, family-friendly croquet set in painted pine with lightweight, wooden balls making the set perfect to pack into the car or caravan for games on-the-go. Lawn croquet developed from the French game 'paille maille'. Known as ‘Pesle Mesle’ in England, eventually becoming Anglicised as ‘Pall Mall’, Charles II (1630-85) was a fashionable advocate of the early game. The diarist Samuel Pepys recorded that he ‘went into St. James Parke, where I saw the Duke of Yorke playing at Pesle Mesle - the first time that I ever saw that sport’, in April 1661. Issue a timeless challenge with this set for two to four players and negotiate a course of metal hoops to reach the finishing post in elegant fashion.
