A delightful counted cross stitch kit from Scotland to make an embroidered pincushion with decorative cord edging. Decorated with fun sewing sundry motifs - including a sewing machine, dressmaker’s mannequin, measuring tape, pins and cotton reels – the colourful design recalls the ‘Make Do and Mend’ spirit which persisted in Britain long after the end of the Second World War. Clothes rationing ended in 1949 but with new clothing still scarce, and expensive, many fashion-conscious Britons sewed their own; a trend made easier by the growth of improved dressmaking patterns, including the popular ‘Jiffy’ sewing patterns launched by Simplicity in the 1950s. A fun design to organise your sewing bag as you tackle your next project. The pincushion design includes Aida fabric on both sides so you can embroider two sides with the design.
