Japanese Herons Frame

Photo frame decorated with herons, echoing the popularity of this bird in Japanese ukiyo-e prints, where it often symbolised calm endurance amid change. The ukiyo-e tradition, flourishing between the 17th and 19th centuries, elevated the heron, with its still, watchful bearing and elegant silhouette, into an icon of patience and contemplative grace, most famously in the work of masters such as Hiroshige and Hokusai. The widespread influence of Japanese printmaking on Western art from the 1860s onwards, a movement known as Japonisme, brought these qualities into European design, where the heron's poised stillness continued to represent a quiet resilience perfectly suited to the framing of cherished memories. Produced with recycled materials and a glazed front. Made in England.
