Description
Ornamental papier-mâché eggs in pretty shades of yellow and pale blue. With lovely, hand-painted designs recalling the dainty floral crosses which were a popular motif on Easter postcards in the 1910s. Such postcards were highly decorative, featuring sumptuous embossed details and vivid chromolithography. The postcards often included a short poem, with an example from c.1915 printed ‘In spring-tide glory ‘round us shed. The Easter story still is read’. Echoing the decoration, the eggs’ are painted on two sides with sprigs of blossom, daffodils and crocus to form an Easter cross.
