Description
Evocative Christmas cards celebrating traditional winter activities and snowy games in 19th and 20th century paintings, lithographs and postcards by British, American and German artists. From horse-drawn sleighs and ice skating to tobogganing and snowball fights: charming, fun-filled scenes to appeal to all ages. Reproducing charming details from The Medici Society archive, including ‘Winter Sports’ by Leslie Wood (1920-94) and ‘The Royal Sleigh’, c.1950s-60s, by Terence Freeman. Plus ‘Playing in the Snow’, c.1935-40, by Eleanor Cohen (1916-2010); ‘The Red School House’, 1858 by George Henry Durrie (1820-63); and ‘Union Pond, New York’, c.1862 by Winslow Homer (1836-1910) from American archives and galleries.
