30 Comfort & Joy Epigram Cards

Thoughtful greetings cards which reproduce a selection of verses, quotations and epigrams set within decorative frames, c.1920s-30s, from the archives of The Medici Society, founded 1908. The designs include a floral border with birds by Edith Bertha Crapper (1896-1979); alongside lettering by London-born calligrapher Violet Wilson (b.1902) and delicate border paintings by the German-born English artist Marta Bowerley (1873-1916). Mixing words of comfort, joy and inspiration. the card fronts are each printed: 'Birthday Greetings and Good Wishes'; ‘A Wish: Much Pleasure, Some Leisure, Some Treasure, But Happiness Without Measure!’; 'May the Blue Bird of Happiness Build Its Nest In Your Life's Garden'; 'Sunshine on Your Path: Speedwell on Your Way'; 'I count myself in nothing else so happy As in a soul remembering my good Friends' (by William Shakespeare, ‘Richard II’, Act II, Scene III); and 'Time Is Eternity' (‘Time is too slow for those who wait, too swift for those who fear, too long for those who grieve, too short for those who rejoice, But for those who love Time is Eternity’), a poem sometimes attributed to Henry van Dyke (1852-1953).
