Elegant Christmas cards reproducing the botanical art of Mary Delany (1700–88), who, at the age of 72 began creating exquisitely-detailed paper-cut collages from coloured paper, all set against her signature black-ink backgrounds. Showcasing four winter foliage-designs: Ilex Aquifolium (Holly), c.1775, Helleborus Niger (Christmas Rose), c.1772-82, Viscum Album (White Mistletoe), c.1776, and Taxus Baccata (Yew), c.1776. Delany created an astonishing 985 collages – or ‘paper moasicks’, as she called them. The collages were bequeathed to The British Museum by her descendent Lady Llanover in 1895. Presented with envelopes in a convenient storage wallet, the artistry and intricacy of the images will delight green-fingered loved ones with favourite winter blooms and foliage forms.
