Description
Elegant cards reproducing botanical illustrations of fruit by contemporary, Suffolk-based artist Petula Stone; in the tradition of the botanical art of Pierre-Joseph Redouté (1759-1840), whose great work ‘Choix des plus belles fleurs’, 1827-33, included hand-coloured engravings of fruit. Fusing science and art, botanical painting developed to record plants in exquisite aesthetic as well as scientific detail, capturing accurate details of the plant form, leaves, flowers, fruit and seeds. Comprising images of apples, strawberries, oranges, damsons, peach, and lemon and lime; each fruit design is annotated with scientific. historical or literary references.
