Christmas cards reproducing Scottish painter Sir Henry Raeburn’s (1756-1823) elegant winter portrait of a skater on Duddingston Loch, near Edinburgh. Known as ‘The Skating Minister’, c.1795, the painting is thought to be a portrait of the Reverend Robert Walker (1755-1808); Walker was minister of Canongate Kirk in Edinburgh’s Old Town and was also a member of the Edinburgh Skating Society, suggesting the gliding posture captured by Raeburn. The painting is part of the collection of the National Gallery of Scotland, Edinburgh.
