Description
Evocative Christmas cards reproducing two winter landscapes by much-loved British artist Eric Ravilious (1903-42): ‘Vicarage in the Snow’ and ‘New Year Snow, 1935’. A painter and wood-engraver, Ravilious grew up in Sussex and was a leading artist of the 1930s, painting and designing with an engaging realism and whimsical eye. Working as a war artist during the Second World War, Ravilious died when the aeroplane in which he was travelling crashed off the coast of Iceland, adding poignancy and pathos to the idealised countryside scenes he captured so beautifully in peacetime.
