Description
Delightful die-cut Christmas cards which also feature a frosting of iridescent biodegradable glitter. Reproducing a Victorian Christmas card, c.1890, and celebrating the popularity of sending Christmas cards by post which, by the 1880s, exceeded nine million additional letters and cards and required the launch of a Royal Mail parcel service for gifts. The inside of the card also includes the text of the festive poem printed on the original card: 'When Christmas comes round, / How dear is the sound / Of the postman's rat-tat at the door. / May it bring you good tidings / From those who'll surround / Your bright Christmas hearth as of yore!'. Depicting a Victorian post box, with festive robins and holly, the card also includes a sign indicating seven daily collections. Posting ‘Early for Christmas’ was considered by Christmas Eve as Victorian postmen also made a delivery on Christmas Day, a practice which survived until 1961.
