Description
Decorative tin filled with honeycomb crunch, reproducing William Morris's 'Strawberry Thief' design of 1883, inspired by thrushes observed at Kelmscott Manor, the Elizabethan farmhouse near Lechlade in Oxfordshire that Morris leased from 1871 until his death. Kelmscott's garden, with its fruit trees, dovecote and kitchen beds, provided a living source of the natural imagery that animates his greatest designs. The thrushes of 'Strawberry Thief', observed with affectionate precision among the fruit they were raiding, distil that attentive, loving relationship with a particular place into one of the most joyful patterns in the history of British textiles. Something to give to any admirer of Morris, or to anyone who finds equal pleasure in a beautiful tin and the sweet treats inside it.
