Drawing on the Kew archives, the 50 postcards reproduce details from botanical art spanning the 17th through to the 21st centuries. Mixing details of fruit, vegetables and herbs with tropical specimens, bulbs, and favourite British perennials. Includes illustrations by European and Japanese artists, including Basilius Besler (1561-1629), Pierre-Joseph Redouté (1759-1840), Georg Dionysius Ehret (1708-70), Ernst Benary (1819-93), Iwasaki Tsunemasa (1786-1842), Marianne North (1830-90), illustrations for ‘Curtis’s Botanical Magazine’ (published from 1797), Masumi Yamanaka (b.1957), and more. Mixing colour with some black-and-white designs, each illustration is captioned on the back of the postcard; postcards are blank for you own message. Presented in a smart gift box, with a ribbon tab to assist lifting out the postcards, the cards and informative book make a beautiful way to enjoy botanical art every day.
