Musical Tree Tin with Biscuits

Rotating conical embossed tin playing 'Jingle Bells', filled with gingerbread-shaped biscuits, recalling a festive baking tradition with roots stretching back to medieval Europe. Gingerbread, made with the spices that reached northern Europe along medieval trade routes from the Middle East and Asia, was among the most prestigious of all festive foods, sold at fairs and markets, pressed into elaborately carved wooden moulds depicting saints, monarchs and seasonal figures, and presented as gifts at court and between households of all ranks. The tradition of shaping gingerbread into decorative forms for Christmas celebrations was particularly strong in Germany and Scandinavia, where it merged with the emerging custom of the decorated Christmas tree in the 19th century to create the richly layered festive traditions that remain beloved across the world today.
