PRODUCT DETAILS
Description
An intricate engineering challenge for nimble fingers and patient modellers: turn a precision-etched, laser cut steel-sheet into an exquisitely detailed, miniature model of the Hubble Space Telescope, complete with a metal stand to hold the model. With step-by-step instructions, begin by snipping the 32 metal components from the 11cm square steel sheet; then use tweezers or needle nose pliers to bend and twist the parts’ interlocking tabs to construct the model without glue. Named for American astronomer Edwin Hubble (1889-1953), the Hubble was launched into a low Earth orbit in 1990; it is predicted to be operable until c.2023-40. Operating on the visible light spectrum, the telescope has peered deep into the origin of the Universe and captured, amongst many ground-breaking images, black holes, the recurring Refsdal supernova, and the light of the furthest star yet observed, known as Earendel. Echoing the precision of the original, make a satisfyingly intricate miniature to remind yourself of the Hubble’s mission to capture images of the distant, early Universe.
