Thought to derive from the Arabic word ‘qandi’, meaning ‘crystallised sugar’, ‘candy’ reflects the popularity of candied fruit spreading from the Middle East and Ottoman courts to Europe as luxurious rarities in the 15th and 16th centuries. There was far too many 'cheap' fruits glac ed 6 slices of orange only and a couple of 1/2 slices of pineapple, a few glace cherries and only 1 of other whole fruits. Plus I'm not sure where they were stored but they were almost melting. They were not worth the money this time for me. However I adore glac ed fruits and they will be eaten. Here's hoping they will improve their choices next year.
